As the oldest city in South Carolina, and one of the oldest in the country, Charleston has a long history full of rich traditions. The city is located near the East Coast and has a range of interesting things to do, ranging from museums and historical sites to music festivals and live theater. Mama’s Used Cars is glad to be located in this gorgeous region where there’s always something to do.

Charleston was founded in 1670 by English settlers, and was originally named Charles Town after King Charles II. As a colonial seaport, the city quickly became a center of trade and commerce, as well as one of the wealthiest cities in America. Even after the American Revolution, Charleston prospered thanks to its cultivation and trade or such products as rice, cotton, and indigo.
In modern times, the city is known for its beautiful buildings and rich heritage. In fact, one of Charleston’s biggest industries now is tourism, with more than 4.5 million visitors per year. People are drawn to the world-class golf courses and pristine beaches, as well as incredible historical sites. Plus, the nightlife is always booming.

If you’re looking for culture, look no further. Charleston is home to an array of festivals which celebrate local traditions. In early June the Charleston Carifest celebrates Caribbean Carnival, in November the city hosts an international film festival, and in March there’s an international antiques show. In addition to these events, the city also has a historic French Quarter in downtown Charleston, with over 25 art galleries within walking distance.
We couldn’t be more pleased to be located in Charleston. Not only does it have great history, but there’s also a diverse range of culture and always something to do. It’s hard to avoid falling in love with Charleston.
